Black Burst

Term used to describe the synchronization signal emitted at the beginning of each video color image line (only applies to the PAL signal), used as the reference frequency for the color information in a Tv color signal.

A video signal that does not have luminance or chrominance components (except burst), but contains all other elements of a video signal.

Black burst is the reference signal commonly used to adjust video and audio sampling.
