Frames I (Intra coded / intracoded) contain intra-frame encoded information similar to JPEG, that is, a complete image (similar to a slide).

In the case of MPEG-2 encoding, these frames are indispensable to create complete images. B and P frames are based on this frame I although they carry less information.
