In hours, minutes, seconds and frames, it is the information that indicates a specific position of a tape.

It is used to search for specific scenes or plans, to make edits with frame accuracy (in PAL 1/25 of a second), etc.

The time codes can be Longitudinal (see LTC) or Vertical (see VITC).

The time code standard is SMPTE / EBU.
