OTT Service in Microsoft Xbox
Movistar
Objective
Access to Movistar Imagenio TV channels via Xbox 360.
In November 2011 Telefónica de España and Microsoft presented the Movistar Imagenio service for Xbox 360; a subscription-based OTT service that offered Xbox 360 console users the possibility of accessing the contents of 15 channels selected from Movistar Imagenio from their devices, which at that time represented a new and revolutionary way to enjoy digital home entertainment.
The offer included channels such as ESPN, Eurosport, MTV Spain, Xtreme Sports, Iberalia, Gol Televisión, among others.
In that transcendental corporate project Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales took on the responsibility of encoding Movistar Imagenio’s 15 channels in MPEG4 AVC , with Smooth Streaming encapsulation, in addition to encrypting them with Microsoft PlayReady DRM technology.
The distribution of these channels over the Internet was carried out through Akamai’s CDN, one of Telefónica’s partners, applying a geoblocking system to guarantee Xbox users in Spain the exclusivity of the service and restrict unauthorised access.
Moreover, TSA took over the operation and monitoring of this 24×7 OTT platform.
