Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales (TSA) has been awarded the project to carry out the design, supply, and integration of a new TV Mobile Unit for HD/UHD production for Euskal Irrati Telebista-Radio Televisión Vasca (EiTB).

The project includes the creation of an advanced mobile studio that will significantly enhance the technical capabilities of the Basque broadcaster.

The new mobile unit features an optimised design with an operations area including five specialised workstations for production, audio mixing, camera control, and replay systems. The rear section is dedicated to the technical area, where the racks with the main equipment are located. The infrastructure is complemented by an advanced electrical system, including a three-phase connection, an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) with eight minutes of backup, integrated air conditioning, and a lighting system specific to each work area.

The audiovisual equipment incorporates cutting-edge technology, including five 4K-capable camera chains compatible with HD and UHD formats, a digital video switcher with multiple 12G-SDI inputs and outputs, a matrix system for signal management and distribution, a 96-channel digital audio mixing desk for broadcast productions, and a complete system of environmental and commentator microphones.

Remote Production

A key aspect of the design is its capability for remote production in lighter scenarios, enabling the transmission of up to 8 video signals, combining cameras with CCU and robotised PTZ cameras, with real-time communication with the central headquarters. In larger-scale events, the system allows for the management of more than 10 video signals and 2 return signals, integrating all audio signals and facilitating commentator participation with local monitoring and intercom.

Additionally, to ensure connection stability, TSA equips the Mobile Unit with a backup solution in locations where traditional FTTH connectivity is unreliable, ensuring operational continuity even in environments with infrastructure limitations.

The project also includes an additional auxiliary vehicle, designed to transport technical equipment and carry out smaller productions without the need to mobilise the main unit. This configuration allows for three production scenarios: local HD/UHD production with the main unit, remote HD production using the mobile unit with equipment transported in the auxiliary vehicle, and basic remote HD production using only the auxiliary vehicle.

TSA takes on the full management of the project, which covers everything from the initial engineering and transformation of the vehicles to installation, commissioning, and training of EiTB‘s staff.

This new mobile unit, equipped with cutting-edge technology and designed for maximum versatility, provides EiTB with the opportunity to expand its production capabilities, adapting to the demands of its audience and the growing requirements of the audiovisual industry.
