Operations Newsroom System for RTVE
RTVE has awarded Telefónica the tender for carrying out the project for the integration and updating of the different production and content management platforms the entity owns in different locations of the national geography: Prado del Rey and Torrespaña Production Programmes, Prado del Rey Digital Newsroom and Programmes and News Newsroon in Las Palmas and Tenerife, into a unique and centralised Production, Media Management and Operations platform.
These independent systems based on the iNews, Interplay or ISIS solutions of the manufacturer Avid are already becoming obsolete or are about to run out of support, due to their age, as they date mostly from 2009 and 2010. Therefore, the public entity has taken advantage of the need for updating these production systems to carry out a technology changeover and an infrastructure centralization – something already successfully tested in the Centralised Digital Newsroom system for RTVE Territorial Centres – (a project in which Telefónica also took part).
This integrating trend implements a unique system that serves all users associated with this environment and offers a greater use of technical and human resources, workflows and tools homogenization, data network structure updating, a greater efficiency and ease in resources and content sharing and a better and easier integration between the different production environments, as well as it allows a better use of the acquired experience and the reduction of operating and maintenance costs.
The new system will be prepared to work with up to 452 clients, 302 of which would be related to the basic editing, management and operations, and other 150 will be more advanced editing seats. The system will be sized so that 300 users from different parts of the Spanish geography that are distributed among the different production centers involved can work concurrently.
On the other hand, the implementation of the new Unified Production System will introduce new elements and changes in the work developed by RTVE staff, being necessary the definition of a training strategy taught by qualified personnel for every system that allows users to know the new tools and services.
