Successful remote production by TSA of a Real Madrid Champions League match
Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales, together with Telefónica Broadcast Services and Grass Valley, has carried out the remote production of a Real Madrid Champions League match. A technology in full swing, as it allows the realization of any event away from the place where it is being held by transporting the signals to a cloud environment.
In this case, the match was played at the Santiago Bernabéu, where all the equipment was installed, and the production was done remotely from Telefónica’s facilities in Tres Cantos, more than 30 kilometers from the stadium, through the use of signals over the cloud. TSA has used for this production, only public Internet connections at each end, both in the operation controls and in Bernabeu.

In order to carry out this method, we have had a close collaboration with TBS, through its audiovisual production resources, and Grass Valley, using its physical and virtual production resources. In addition, AWS cloud instances and resources have been used.
Among the Broadcast means that have been used, it is necessary to detail the six cameras, the four signal points and the intercom that have been established in the Venue. Tres Cantos production control of has been operated with a video mixer panel GV Korona 2M/E, audio tables implemented in the system, a multiviewer monitoring, the App GV AMPP Replay, which has allowed the recording of multiple video sources simultaneously, files playback and previous recordings, playlists generatione and play files at variable speed, and computers with an Internet connection to access the various applications of virtual production and monitoring that allowed the realization of the event. In addition, the operation has been possible using an external Jog/Shuttle controller. This application, which was available in AWS Cloud, was accessible and operated through the Replay operator’s PC only with access to the Internet and the Cloud instance.
This remote and customized production of the match lasted more than three hours, from the pre-match, with live connections to the post-match, including connections with press conferences, interviews, etc.
This test has demonstrated remote productions can be carried out with most of the technical and operational equipment remotely; at Broadcaster or service provider’s facilities or at any remote location where there may be an operator with internet access, minimizing the displacement of human resources and technical means.
