Bandwidth

  • The distance between the limits of the highest and lowest frequency rays of a signal spectrum of a transmission channel.
  • The amount of information that can happen in a given time.

A large bandwidth is needed to show clear images in detail and this plays an important role in the quality of a recorded or transmitted image.

Digital imaging systems generally require large bandwidths, which is why many storage systems and digital video formats use a compression technique that adjusts the signal to a particular space.
