Channel Playout in Europe and Latin America

AMC Networks Internacional

Objective

Linear channels playout and distribution services for AMC Networks International in Europe and Latin America.

Until the end of 2018, when AMC Networks International (AMCNI) decided to internalise its Playout services using its own resources, the responsibility for the playout and distribution operations of AMCNI’s television channels aimed at the European and Latin American markets rested with Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales.

More specifically, TSA was in charge of 5 television channels generated from the audiovisual material that AMCNI regularly supplied from its headquarters in the USA.

In Europe, this service consisted of the channels called Spain and Portugal, Belgium HD, France HD-SD and Euro2, the latter aimed at television markets in Hungary, Poland, Greece and Romania.

The signals were transported through a hybrid network composed of satellite and optical fibre in order to reach various pay TV operators: Numericable, Telenet, Neuf, Belgacom, DMC Amsterdam, Bouygues, Pixagility and Movistar+…

Subtitled into eight different languages, the European channels were delivered respecting the original audio version, in addition to incorporating dubbed versions corresponding to the languages of the countries in which they were broadcast.

Regarding the channels intended for the Latin American market, it should be noted that they were delivered in the original version and dubbed into neutral Spanish with subtitles in Portuguese and Spanish.

The service provided by TSA included the generation of DPI disconnections to facilitate the broadcasting of local self-promotion and advertising spots, as well as encoding headend and signal distribution through optical fibre and satellite.

The simultaneous broadcast on the AMCNI channels of the benefit concert held for the victims of Hurricane Sandy in Madison Square Garden in 2012 and featuring renowned artists including Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney, was an important broadcast with significant international impact that tested Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales capacity for multilateral coordination with a successful result.
