PROJECTS

DISAT project in Arica (Chile) and Laredo (USA) teleports

Media Networks Latin América (MNLA)

Objective

Media Networks Latin America relied again on Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales for its Satellite Internet project that covers Latin America area and began with the creation of a pilot in several teleports within the region. The project was called: “Radio Frequency System for the integral project of Data and Satellite Internet (DISAT)”.

MNLA designed a strategic plan for the implementation of an RF system for satellite communications, which operates in Ka band and has the required terrestrial infrastructure consisting of th Toll Gate, RF Systems, User Terminal and Management systems.

Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales was the company responsible for carrying out this pilot, in charge of the design, supply, installation, commissioning and integration of all the necessary equipment. In this way, the satellite internet service can be provided in the region from the gateways located in the Teleports of Arica in Chile and Laredo in Texas, USA.

The project consisted of the integration of a total of 2 transmitting / receiving antennas of 9 meters sized, as well as the commissioning of the power amplifiers, HPAs, redundant in 1 + 1 configuration. In addition, all the work inherent to the installation of those antennas was also carried out, such as civil works, ducting and wiring, power supply, motorisation or installation of auxiliary equipment.

Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales has also been in charge of defining and managing all the requirements of physical space, energy type and consumption, air conditioning, power and other support infrastructure.

The installed system is able to withstand 500 MHz beams in Ka band, which will be capable of serving the clients with an estimated capacity of 850 Mbps.

The scope of the global project was divided into three phases that allowed achieving an optimal result in its management and in the quality of the service provided:

  • Alignment requirements and installation activities prior to the Gateway.
  • Gateway infrastructure construction.
  • Deployment of terminals and network support.
