Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales (TSA) has participated in TM Broadcast’s breakfast at “Jardín de la Máquina” restaurant, in Madrid. It was done under special circumstances due to the current pandemic situation, so all the required safety measures have been taken.

In the informative breakfast the following guests have participated: as TSA representatives Jose Luis García Cabrera (Audiovisual Services and Platforms Chairman) and Asier Anitua Valluerca (Business Development EMEA & LATAM Manager),  Jesús García Romero (Technical Area Director at RTVE), Manuela Martínez (Engineering and Maintenance Head at Movistar+), Yeray Alfageme (Services Manager at Olympic Channel) and Sergio Ruiz (Founder Partner at MPS Square One), as well as some  of the main remote production’s industry suppliers represented by Pablo Herrero (Business Head EMEA at Unit), Jose Carlos Sánchez (customer Excellence Manager), both by Virtz, Nacho González (Sales Director at Lawo AG) and Jesús Xifra (Xeltec CEO). The breakfast has been moderated by Luis Sanz, industry expert, along with the TM Broadcast publishing representatives as hosts.

Different and interesting topics have been discussed in the session such as the current sports events remotely produced by Movistar+ on the hand of TBS and the challenges they face, RTVE’s bet on IP technologies in a near future with open fronts in both remote production and IP production, together with the current remoted produced programs made by the public TV Network. Virtz emphasized the connection between remote productions and IP technologies or the news possibilities in this area.

On the other hand, the Olympic Channel introduced cloud contribution via IP that allows them to get rid of Central Control (until now stated as a punctual solution, although it could become the standard). Lawo explained the versatility of its solutions with 100% remote productions, not limited to “islands” approach, as it frequently happens nowadays and emphasized the necessity of codification and the possibilities of the “online world” in a more flexible environment where customers don’t belong to the “traditional” Broadcast world as it was introduced by MPS Square One.

Other topics such as the Spanish transition to IP, the advantages that edge computing, which will become more and more common, can provide in these environments the main issues to resolve at IP facilities, 5G versus IP, how compression helps, cloud production and even the role played by the “lockdown” as an agent of change towards remote production were discussed.
